Dear Mom/Zach/Vince/Everybody
First of all, thank you for all your emails and kind words I have recieved. I want to tell you how greatful I am for all of you! There is no way I could do this work without your support as well as the help of the Lord. I would like to express my Love for yall!
After being in transit for about 23 hours, my group made it to the Milano airport alive. awesome. We then went for some training and then to our first Italian Dinner. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. We ate Lasagna, Pizza, Salad, and finished off with Gelato. Pretty much great. We then went to our hotel and hung out for the night preparing for the next day. I havent been not tired since I got here. It takes everything to not fall asleep during meetings.
The next day we met our traniners and recieved our "Golden Ticket" which told us where we were serving. My trainer is Anziano Miller!! he is from California and served in the Army for a year before he went out on his mission and you can tell. Our apartment is spotless, which is great. oh my first area is MILANO 1 !!!!! So Milano is apperently akin to Detroit. Its very industrial and honestly not as pretty as much of Italy. There is Graffiti everywhere. However, later today, we are going to visit the Duomo! That should be pretty exciting. Also we are having a member sign us up to be able to see the last supper. I am very excited for that!
The ward here is fantastic. Many of the churches here are converted from old buildings into chapels, however, ours was built for this purpose, its fantastic. The members are just as phenomonal. Excuse me, I have forgotten how to spell. We have many strong members who are so generous and willing to help us with whatever we need. We even have an ex MMA fighter who won Italy 6 times as well as all of Europe once. Forte huh?
Some days are very hard. In particular Monday was a very difficult day for me. I dont speak the language as well as I want to or need to, so I find approaching people on the street difficult. I have thought several times since I got here that If everyone spoke english, this would be much easier for me. I do not want to seem as a salesman here, I want to be a missionary, and to be able to show my genuine desire to talk with them. That being said, there is a rule we discussed during training here known as the 90-10 rule. It goes like this. the first 90% of the effort you put in helps you recieve 10% of the blessings. however, when you feel like youre at the end of your rope, you keep pushing and the blessings just flow! I have witnessed miracles in our teaching, we have set a baptisimal date and have found some pretty awesome people who want to meet with us!
One problem we face is that this month is the month when all of Italy goes on vacation. This makes working with members or investigators very difficult for the next few weeks. I expect to do a lot of finding work for a bit until everyone returns.
I was recently reading in alma during my personal study and came across the story of ammon. What a strong guy! He was a perfect missionary. What struck me, being a missionary, is that even though he was one of the best missionaries of all time, he did not convert everyone in his path. He suffered afflictions, he endured hardships. I expect to do this. When he went to retrieve the rest of his brethren, he saw the pains they had endured. This mission will be hard. This mission has been hard. But what do we do? We trust in the Lord, we trust in the people who love us, and we move forward! The blessings we recieve far outweigh the hardships! This is the hardest thing I have ever done. But is it worth it? Absolutely!
Im sorry I havent taken much pictures this week. Ill take more today and email them next week.
I love you all and hope to hear from you soon!
