This week in Italy! Aug. 28th

WE HAVE A BAPTISM ON SATURDAY!!!! WOOOOOOH!!!!!! ALMA IS GETTING BAPTIZED YEAAAHH WOOOHHH YEAAAAHHH!
Were kind of excited about that. Just a little bit. Okay so this week we have actually a pretty full week! NICE. We also have been working with a person who only speaks spanish.... difficult. But we manage. One thing we have noticed in our ward is that the Phillipinos, Spanish speakers, and the Italians have somewhat segragated in our ward. NON VA BENE. WE WANT EVERYONE TO BE FRIENDS!!!!!!!! So one of our goals is to unify these people. How were going to do that, no clue, but it will happen. yeah.
I give my first talk in my ward in Italy in one week! Woooooohhh. Im super excited. yeah not really.  But it will be a good time to be gently reminded just how much I dont know how to say!
So now that August is ending, all of our members are back from vacation! We expect to be very busy very soon and we cant wait! I know the time is going to FLY BY and im excited for that! Im ready to get to work!! Okay ill send a few of the pictures from last week!
Okay from left to right heres my district.
Little Devil Statue Creepy/Cool

Anziano Miller, Everyones favorite missionary, Sor Haslem, Holloway, Durfey, Roth, Santoro, and Lofely! Sorella sontoro goes home next week!

Okay so Im getting an AWESOME lasagna recipie from one of the members, be prepared, were also learning to cook some things from others! They cook so well!

Apperently the climate is seriously the most important things in making pizzas, whodathunk. Water and air is the most important thing. no wonder certain places are known for pizza and some arent.

I made this for lunch. It was SO GOOD!

This Week!!

Okay so this week was super fun!! Last wendesday we went to A castle in Milano!! It was so cool! Ill attatch pictures later. Two of the coolest parts about this castle was that theres a statue done by Michelagnello and a cieling that was painted by Da vinci!! How cool!! Well they are super old, so honestly they dont look that cool, but the fact that they did them was awesome.

Today were planning on seeing more castles and stuff and doing some shopping. Also one of the members of our ward has the Hookups with Giorgio Armani, so chances are we get to meet him on a Pday and maybe get a picture with him! Celeb status, nice.

The food and culture here continues to be great, and the members are so giving, they work hard and we appreciate them!!

President during this weeks training has us shifting our focus from finding work on the streets and in the parks to gathering referrals. I wholeheartedly agree with this. 53% of our baptisms in the past year have been through this method of finding!! Its Awesome to see how president really wants us working in close proximity with the members and just inviting people unto christ. This work is about inviting anyone and everyone to be just a little bit closer and dig a little bit deeper every day! It doesnt matter if they are non members, active members, less active members, or anything. Our job is to invite everyone!! We are more focused on the people now than we were before, because in the end, focusing on the people and doing good is all we can do. Were really just focusing on the people we have and are working hard to help prepare them to make covenants with the lord! If they have already made those covenants we are working to help them maintain them!!

Heres a scripture I found during the week that I really liked, I hope yall like it too!

Jer: 17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and Whose hope the Lord is.

Well I love yall! Pictures from this week coming soon! Talk to you next week!

This Week in Italy: Miracle Time

OKAY SO MIRACLE TIME.

This week was really an experience for me. This week we learned of the principle of fasting. So we had met a man a few weeks ago named Moses. He was a super great guy and we talked to him for about an hour and then we exchanged numbers and planned to meet with him last week. Well the day before we were supposed to meet, we called him and his number didnt work. We had set the day but had forgotten to set a time or a place. We were devastated. We spent all off that day trying to get in contact with him, but with no luck. So the day we were supposed to meet with him arrived, and My companion decided to fast. We fasted all day to find Moses and spent all day looking for him. We went throughout the whole day without having seen him once. We decided to go to where we met him the first time, which was in a park. We went to the exact bench at which we had talked with him for about 15 minutes. Nothing. We then decided to walk around the park once to look for him. nothing. Finally when we were discouraged that we would never find this man again, we began to walk back to the bus. We walk towards a fountain in the park and we see this man with a plastic bag filling it with water and watering the nearby roses. I was really confused, but all the sudden I hear my companion say "NO WAY" IT WAS MOSES. OOOH WOW!!  We ran up to him and explained the whole situation, he had only been there for 20 minutes and was planning to leave. He had no idea why he came that day and to this place, he just came there on a whim. It was definately a miracle. This man is MADE OF GOLD. We excitedly sat down and spoke with him. Well except he had met with the missionaries before, in panama, and pretty much knew everything, he really just taught us the Plan of salvation. IT GETS BETTER. We tried setting a baptisimal date with him, but he couldnt because he was going to be in Germany. SO INSTEAD, HE CHOSE THE DATE. HECK YEAH. It was a complete miracle, because we had no idea how we were to find this man, we had no way to contact him, all we had was a day set aside. Turns out our number for him was one number off.. typical. We made it to the end of the day without seeing him, but we continued to have faith. Often  times the Lord lets us struggle before he blesses us. I have seen that a lot during the mission. But if we perservere, we will witness miracles!! We just have to recognize them!

Well as far as activities here were going to check out some sweet museums and some dope castle. Its gon be greeeeaaat!! Thank yall so much for your emails and updates, im sorry if ive been brief, Im kind of speed writing here.  I love you all!! Ill send more pictures soon!! Last week was spent running around the shops in Milano, because you know, fashion. But i didnt really buy anything so I dont have really any photos from then, but ill get some this week, so be on the lookout next wednesday!

Talk to you soon!!

Next Letter

My mom emailed James and informed him that Chad and Alisha were at Copperfield Ward this past weekend.

OH MY GOSH CHAD!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS SO GOOD TO SEE HIM AND STEVO!!!!!!!!

Dear Friends and Family,

Things here in Milano are going great!!! Minus the fact that 95% of the country is on vacation right now :( However, we arent letting up! Most of our investigators are gone right now, but we are working hard with those we do have, and are trying to find new investigators. We even have an investigator preparing to be baptized next week!!! Awesome! Finding work here in Italy is difficult, but whenever we have a good lesson, its all worth it. During this week, I have really learned to Feast upon the words of Christ. My studies have been AWESOME. Im seriously reading and studing at least 5 or 6 chapters in the BOM a day, as well as Preach my Gospel. Ive also started reading Jesus the Christ, A fantastic book. I now have a goal to read the entire bible, BOM, and the Pearl of great price by the end of my mission, something I feel is very tangible. I am finding that as I read and ponder the scriptures, no matter the day we have had, I am content. If we can find but one person to help bring unto christ, if they are improved in any way at all, whether they be a member or not, we have done well! Its important to realize that this includes ourselves! If we are closer to God by the end of the day than we were in the beginning, we are doing great! But we can yet be better!!

Okay so Milano is great, but its probably the least "Italian" City in l'Italia.  There are tons of foreigners here, and you can get all sorts of non italian things here. For instance, we live right by a japonese restaurant, and they sell peanut butter here. Last week we went to the Duomo, and we plan on going back today to see some other churches. I have pictures this week!

Well friends, I love you all and youll here from me next week! Let me know what yall are up to! Id love to hear from you!

Welcome to Milano

Look who I found!

Dear Mom/Zach/Vince/Everybody

First of all, thank you for all your emails and kind words I have recieved. I want to tell you how greatful I am for all of you! There is no way I could do this work without your support as well as the help of the Lord. I would like to express my Love for yall!

After being in transit for about 23 hours, my group made it to the Milano airport alive. awesome. We then went for some training and then to our first Italian Dinner. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC. We ate Lasagna, Pizza, Salad, and finished off with Gelato. Pretty much great. We then went to our hotel and hung out for the night preparing for the next day. I havent been not tired since I got here. It takes everything to not fall asleep during meetings.

The next day we met our traniners and recieved our "Golden Ticket" which told us where we were serving. My trainer is Anziano Miller!! he is from California and served in the Army for a year before he went out on his mission and you can tell. Our apartment is spotless, which is great. oh my first area is MILANO 1 !!!!! So Milano is apperently akin to Detroit. Its very industrial and honestly not as pretty as much of Italy. There is Graffiti everywhere. However, later today, we are going to visit the Duomo! That should be pretty exciting. Also we are having a member sign us up to be able to see the last supper. I am very excited for that!

The ward here is fantastic. Many of the churches here are converted from old buildings into chapels, however, ours was built for this purpose, its fantastic. The members are just as phenomonal. Excuse me, I have forgotten how to spell. We have many strong members who are so generous and willing to help us with whatever we need. We even have an ex MMA fighter who won Italy 6 times as well as all of Europe once. Forte huh?

Some days are very hard. In particular Monday was a very difficult day for me. I dont speak the language as well as I want to or need to, so I find approaching people on the street difficult. I have thought several times since I got here that If everyone spoke english, this would be much easier for me. I do not want to seem as a salesman here, I want to be a missionary, and to be able to show my genuine desire to talk with them. That being said, there is a rule we discussed during training here known as the 90-10 rule. It goes like this. the first 90% of the effort you put in helps you recieve 10% of the blessings. however, when you feel like youre at the end of your rope, you keep pushing and the blessings just flow! I have witnessed miracles in our teaching, we have set a baptisimal date and have found some pretty awesome people who want to meet with us!

One problem we face is that this month is the month when all of Italy goes on vacation. This makes working with members or investigators very difficult for the next few weeks. I expect to do a lot of finding work for a bit until everyone returns.

I was recently reading in alma during my personal study and came across the story of ammon. What a strong guy! He was a perfect missionary. What struck me, being a missionary, is that even though he was one of the best missionaries of all time, he did not convert everyone in his path. He suffered afflictions, he endured hardships. I expect to do this. When he went to retrieve the rest of his brethren, he saw the pains they had endured. This mission will be hard. This mission has been hard. But what do we do? We trust in the Lord, we trust in the people who love us, and we move forward! The blessings we recieve far outweigh the hardships! This is the hardest thing I have ever done. But is it worth it? Absolutely!

Im sorry I havent taken much pictures this week. Ill take more today and email them next week.

I love you all and hope to hear from you soon!
